Hullabaloo at the Zoo, initial pieces

So this is the first page of the second book I'm working on for Michael Goldoor. This one is called "Hullabaloo at the Zoo," and is full of many animals throwing a birthday extravaganza (I prefer to pronounce this "eggstrabaganza!," think Agador Spartacus a la Birdcage). Anyway, Mr. Goldoor has provided me with piles of hysterical imagery, and I intend to do him proud. It is truly a wild rumpus, and I must say I've never painted as many animals in my life, and this is only the beginning. Off we go!

Spotwork

Been working on some black and white work, because I have virtually none of it in my portfolio. Maybe not the most exhilarating thing I've ever done.

Commence!

Here is a photo of my show installed. Yes I DID stand on a ladder for some crazy long time screwing six two-foot magnet strips into the wall at 103 inches high, thank you very much. Much thanks to anybody who helped me, or picked up screws when I dropped them off the ladder. The show is down now, and I am all graduated. On to bigger and better things!

Pecos Bill & Slue-Foot Sue

Pecos Bill was the greatest cowboy the West ever saw. This is the story of him and his sweetheart, Slue-foot Sue. Bill didn't have any trouble catching ladies.


But everything changed when he met Sue. He first saw her riding a giant catfish down the Rio Grande, taking shots at the sky with her six-shooter.


Bill was so taken by her he proposed on the spot. They planned to get hitched the very next day.

Sue got herself a fancy dress with a big old bustle in back.

On the wedding day Sue was all dressed to the nines. She insisted that Bill prove he loved her by letting her ride Widowmaker, Bill's horse. He couldn't talk her out of it, so up she got.

Widowmaker bucked and jumped and tossed poor Sue right off!

But when she came down and hit the dirt, Sue bounced right back up to the sky again, on account of that fancy, springy bustle.

Sue bounced back and forth, higher and higher!

Finally she bounced so high she popped right into the moon.

It was a crying shame, losing his Sue. But Bill tipped his hat to the moon every night after. Sometimes he could almost hear Sue cat-callin' back to him.

Brooks Sumner Affair

So in 1856 this crazy pro-slavery congressman from South Carolina (Preston Brooks) beat anti-slavery senator Charles Sumner with his cane right in the middle of the senate chamber. Brooks was so into it he kept right on walloping poor Charles (who was trapped at his desk) until the cane broke. Intense.

AMNESIA

This is my words on wheels piece, a poem by Brianna Knight Grade 8

Having amnesia can be as simple
as forgetting your name,
as seeing your face during the day
and forgetting it at night,

as helpless as a child
wandering around not knowing where you are.

How did I get this way? Is this
a curse set upon me?

Am I in a trance? Is my mind
being controlled?

For, I am forever traveling the
path of this lonely journey.

Will I ever remember where I’m
from? Or who I am?
